Our Sod Installation Process

Old Grass Removal

We strip out the dead grass, weeds, and old sod so your new lawn starts on a clean base.

Ground Preparation

We loosen and level the soil so the new sod can root in quickly and evenly.

Minor Grading

When your yard needs it, we smooth out low spots and adjust the grade to help water drain away.

Topsoil

If your soil is thin or sandy, we add topsoil to give the new grass a healthy start.

Sod Installation

Fresh sod is laid tight with staggered seams for a full, even lawn from day one.

Final Cleanup

We haul away the debris and leave your driveway, walkways, and beds clean.

Watering Instructions

You get a simple watering schedule so your new lawn roots in and stays green.

Sod Varieties We Install

St. Augustine Floratam

The most popular lawn in Jacksonville. It handles heat and full sun well and grows into a thick, deep green yard.

Other St. Augustine Types

Varieties like CitraBlue and Palmetto hold up better in partial shade while keeping that classic St. Augustine look.

Zoysia

A dense, soft lawn with good shade tolerance and a fine, carpet-like look.

Bahia

A low-maintenance, drought-tolerant option that works well for large, sunny areas.

Not Sure Which to Choose?

We'll look at your sun, shade, and soil and recommend the sod that fits your yard and how you use it.

Sod Installation FAQ

Sod installation pricing depends on the size of your lawn, sod type, site conditions, access, and the amount of preparation required. Use our Instant Sod Pricing tool to get an estimated price based on your lawn size.

Enter your address into our online Instant Sod Pricing tool and select the area where you want new sod installed. The system will measure the selected area and provide an estimated installation price.

The online price is an estimate based primarily on the measured lawn area. Final pricing is confirmed after we review the property and project requirements.

Additional grading, excessive roots, additional topsoil, drainage problems, irrigation repairs, difficult equipment access, excessive debris, or other unusual site conditions can affect the final price. Any changes will be discussed before additional work is performed.

Standard sod replacement includes removal of the existing lawn, ground preparation, minor grading, installation of fresh sod, and project cleanup.

Yes. For a standard sod replacement, we remove the existing lawn before preparing the soil for new sod.

Yes. Standard installation includes cleanup and removal of lawn debris generated during our installation unless your proposal states otherwise.

Minor grading associated with normal sod preparation is included. Properties requiring significant grading, additional fill, or correction of major drainage problems may require additional work and pricing.

Topsoil is added when the condition of the property requires it. The amount needed varies by property and may affect the final project price.

Drainage corrections are not automatically included with standard sod installation. If we identify a drainage problem that should be corrected before installing the new lawn, we can discuss the available options and pricing with you.

Irrigation repairs are not automatically included. If damaged or improperly functioning irrigation is discovered, we’ll discuss any necessary repairs before additional work is completed.

New sod requires consistent watering while establishing. An irrigation system is highly recommended. If you don’t have one, you will need another reliable method of providing adequate and consistent watering.

We install sod varieties appropriate for Northeast Florida. Availability can vary, and we’ll help determine the best available option based on your property’s sunlight, irrigation, soil conditions, and intended use.

Sunlight, shade, drainage, irrigation, traffic, and existing landscape conditions all matter. We’ll help you select an appropriate sod variety for your property.

A 50% deposit is required to schedule your installation and order materials. Your deposit is applied directly toward the total project price and is not an additional fee.

Sod and other materials are ordered specifically for your project. The deposit allows us to secure the required materials and reserve your installation date and crew.

The remaining 50% balance is due upon completion of the project unless different payment terms are stated in your proposal.

Many residential sod projects can be completed within one to two working days. Larger projects or properties requiring extensive preparation, grading, or additional work may take longer.

Heavy rain and other weather conditions can make proper ground preparation or sod installation impossible. If weather affects your scheduled installation, we’ll coordinate a new installation time as soon as conditions allow.

Contact us as soon as possible. Because sod is a perishable product and may be ordered specifically for your project, rescheduling after materials have been ordered may be affected by supplier policies and material availability.

New sod needs frequent and consistent watering during establishment. Watering requirements can vary depending on sod variety, weather, soil conditions, and time of year. We’ll provide watering guidance for your new lawn.

Traffic should be kept to a minimum while the new sod establishes its root system. Avoid unnecessary foot traffic until the sod has begun rooting firmly into the soil.

The first mowing should occur after the sod has rooted sufficiently and reached an appropriate mowing height. Avoid mowing too early or removing too much of the grass blade at once.

Successful establishment depends heavily on proper watering and care after installation. We’ll install the sod correctly and provide aftercare guidance, but the homeowner is responsible for following watering and maintenance instructions after installation.

Yes. We can replace complete lawns or specific sections depending on the property’s needs. Minimum project pricing may apply to smaller installations.

Yes, but we first want to identify obvious conditions that could cause the new sod to fail, such as excessive shade, poor drainage, irrigation problems, or unsuitable site conditions. Simply replacing grass may not correct an underlying problem.

Not necessarily. As long as we have access to the work area and all project details have been confirmed beforehand, installation can generally proceed without you being home.

Jax Yard Rescue provides residential sod installation throughout Jacksonville and surrounding service areas.

Start by using our Instant Sod Pricing tool. Once we’ve confirmed the project scope and final price, your 50% deposit reserves your installation and allows us to order the sod and materials.
